# Why lease a used car?

A used car on a fixed term costs less per month than a new one and ties up none of your money, and the servicing and MOT stay with us. It is not right for everyone. Here is who it suits, and who it does not.

## The situations

- Your car has gone and you are not ready to buy A write-off settles for less than a replacement costs, and rushing into a purchase with that money is how people end up with a worse car than the one they lost. A term gives you the use of a car while you take your time. [Read the full page →](https://prelovedcarhire.co.uk/car-written-off-no-courtesy-car)
- You do not want to tie up the money A used car is several thousand pounds sitting on a driveway, depreciating, with the repair risk yours. Paying monthly for the use of one keeps the capital where it is and puts the mechanical risk on us.
- You want to know what it will cost The appeal of a term is that the number does not move. No MOT surprise, no clutch in month seven, no haggling over what it is worth when you sell it. Servicing and MOT stay with us because the car does.
- You are new to the UK Common, and the question is almost always about your licence rather than anything else. Which licences we can take comes from our insurance, so ask and we will give you a straight answer for yours. [What you need →](https://prelovedcarhire.co.uk/eligibility)
- You only need a car for part of the year A contract somewhere, a year in the area, a stretch where you need to drive and then you will not. A fixed term with a known end beats buying and selling again at both ends.

Two months up front on a six month term, three months on twelve months and longer. No obligation.

## When we are the wrong answer

Three of these come up often enough to be worth saying plainly, because in each one somebody else will serve you better and we would rather tell you now.

### You need a car for a few days

A daily rental firm is faster, cheaper for that length, and has a counter you can walk into. We are built for weeks.

### You do not know when you will stop needing it

Our agreements end on a fixed date and there is nothing that carries them on, so a need with no finish in sight is the one thing we cannot serve. The car-by-the-month providers can, and that is the right call if it describes you.

### You need it for work, through a business

We hire to private individuals for personal use only. If the hire is for a company or for a sole trader’s business use, we are not able to help and will say so when you ask.

## What they all have in common

Every situation above has an end in it: a payout, a repair, a delivery date, a move. That is the thing that makes a fixed agreement the right shape — you are not buying something that runs until you cancel it, you are covering a gap you can put dates around.

It is also why the end date matters so much, and why we put it in front of you before you book rather than in the small print. [What happens at the end](https://prelovedcarhire.co.uk/what-happens-at-the-end) is the page worth reading before you decide.
