About us
We are a new car hire company in Shrewsbury. We buy used cars, we own them outright, and we supply them to private drivers on six, twelve, twenty-four or thirty-six month terms. That is the whole business, and this page is the honest version of it.
We are new, and we are not going to pretend otherwise
You will not find reviews on this site, or a number of happy customers, or a founding year that makes us sound established. We have not earned any of those yet, and putting them up before we have would tell you something worse about us than being new does.
When we have real reviews from real customers, they will go on here with their names on. Until then, judge us on whether this site answers your questions straight and whether the person you speak to does the same.
Why this exists
There is a gap that is badly served: somebody loses a car and needs another one for a few weeks, not a few days and not for ever. A daily rental is priced for a holiday. A car on finance is a commitment they are not in a position to make, and often cannot make at all while a claim is open.
A car for a dated gap, at a price agreed up front, with the end date on the front of the agreement, is a simple thing to want and a surprisingly hard thing to buy. That is what we set out to do.
How we are set up
- We own the cars. We are not a broker and we are not arranging finance for you. We buy the cars, we keep them serviced and in MOT, and we hire them out ourselves. If something goes wrong with one, it is ours to put right.
- Every agreement has an end date on it. 6, 12, 24 or 36 months, fixed when you sign, with the end date on the paperwork. You can carry on month by month afterwards at the same rate, but only if you tell us you want to. Nothing continues by itself.
- We hire to private drivers only. Personal use, not business use. It keeps what we do simple and it means we can be clear about what you are getting.
- We are a small operation in Shrewsbury. Which means you talk to the people who own the cars, and that the honest answer is sometimes that we are not the right fit.
What we will not do
Worth stating, because most of it is standard practice elsewhere in this trade.
- Take a booking we are wrong for. If a daily rental or a car by the month suits you better, we will say so and you can go and get one.
- Describe a car in adjectives. Age, mileage, MOT expiry and service history are facts you can check. "Immaculate" is an opinion we would be asking you to take on trust.
- Hide the end date. It is on the front of the agreement and on several pages of this site, because finding out on day 85 is how people end up stuck.
- Invent proof. No borrowed reviews, no made-up numbers, no badges we have not earned.

Preloved Car Hire is a trading name of HDCH Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 16237398. That is the company you would be contracting with, and it is the name that appears on the agreement and on anything you pay.
