How it works
You pick a term, we quote it, and you pay a multiple of the monthly figure when you take the car. Two months up front on a six month term, three months on twelve months and longer. The balance is spread across the rest of the term and charged monthly in advance. Servicing and MOT stay with us, because the car stays ours.
Start to finish
-
You tell us two dates
The day you need the car and the day you will give it back. Not "how long": two dates on a calendar. If you are not sure of the second one, work it out before you book, because it decides the price and whether we are the right answer at all.
-
We quote for those exact dates
What we have free, what it costs for that period, and what is included. In writing, so you can compare it against a daily rate without doing arithmetic.
-
We check your licence and ID
Every hire, every time. We will tell you precisely what to bring so it takes one visit rather than two.
-
You sign, and the end date is on the front
The agreement carries the start date and the end date on its face. That date is fixed at signing. Nothing about it changes afterwards.
-
You hand it back, or carry on
On the end date you give the car back and the term is finished, or you carry on month by month at the rate you have been paying. Your choice, made then.
How long can you have the car?
six, twelve, twenty-four or thirty-six months. They are the same product on the same terms, and only the length, the payment profile and the monthly figure change. The longer the term, the lower the monthly. Two months up front on a six month term, three months on twelve months and longer.
We have not built a separate page for each length, because there is nothing different to say about one. What matters is picking a term you can live with, which usually means a little longer than your best guess rather than a little shorter. What happens at the end explains the one part that genuinely does need thinking about.
How this compares
Three honest comparisons, including the ones where we lose:
Against a daily rental
A rental desk is faster for a few days and is everywhere. Over several weeks the daily rate usually works out dearer, and most of the big firms want a credit card in the driver's name with a hold placed on it.
Against buying something cheap to tide you over
Buying can be cheaper on paper. It also means tax, insurance, an MOT, whatever goes wrong, and selling it again at the other end, in the middle of a month you are already having a bad one.
Against a car by the month, with no fixed finish
If you genuinely do not know when you will stop needing a car, they are a better fit than we are. Our agreements have a fixed end date, which is an advantage when your need has an end and a drawback when it does not. Worth being honest about which you are.
Common questions
- Can I rent a car for 3 months?
- Our shortest term is six months, so three months is below what we supply. For a gap of a few months a daily or monthly hire firm will serve you better, and we will say so rather than sell you a term you do not need.
- Can I hire a car for one month?
- Yes. A month is a comfortable fit. You give us the start and end dates and we quote for exactly those dates.
- What if I need the car for less time than I booked?
- Tell us as soon as you know and you can bring the car back early. What happens to the money for the unused days is set out in the agreement, and we will go through it with you before you book rather than at the counter. What we cannot do is move the end date later, because that date is fixed when you sign.
